Buck for Senate
Salida Mountain Mail
October 12, 2010
Ken Buck, the Weld County district attorney since 2005, believes the biggest issue facing the country is out of control government deficits. To rein in spending he proposes a balanced budget amendment while reviewing federal agencies and eliminating those entities duplicating services.
On energy, he supports stepping up production of traditional sources while continuing to explore alternative energy possibilities.
The U.S. strategy in Iraq has worked, he said, but now it's up to the Iraqi people to take advantage of the opportunities coming as a result of the surge. The nation must have realistic goals in place for Afghanistan before drawing down troops while eliminating drug trafficking and corruption.
On immigration, Mr. Buck says the country must secure its southern border while developing a plan to allow those who wish to enter the country to work an option to become citizens.
Incumbent Michael Bennet was appointed to his Senate seat when Ken Salazar resigned to join the Obama administration as Interior secretary. Mr. Bennet has supported the president and party leaders Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid on stimulus spending, what amounts to the federal government's takeover of health care and supported cap and trade proposals which would have resulted in higher energy costs for all American consumers.
The Mail endorses Ken Buck for U.S. Senate.
