Bennet to Obama—Be Quiet, the Independents are Voting
DENVER – Only one day after appointed Sen. Michael Bennet told CNN that he wasn’t going to have President Obama campaign for him, Bennet and Pres. Obama held a conference call that was not even announced to the press.
"We know Obama directed Bennet's appointment to the Senate, his primary defeat of Andrew Romanoff, and has pushed millions of dollars into his campaign coffers,” said John Swartout, Buck for Colorado’s campaign manager. “You'd think after all Obama has done for Bennet, and all the rubberstamping Bennet has done for Obama, Bennet would have the decency not to slap Obama in the face. Trash talking the President in public while praising him in secret is the kind of two-faced Washington tricks Coloradans are sick of."
When asked by CNN’s Jessica Yellin why Bennet isn’t having Pres. Obama visit the state, Bennet said that it wouldn’t help him with Colorado’s independent voters--
“I think the president should be in places around the country where it will be helpful. And we are running this race, uh… on the facts on the ground in Colorado….” (CNN, 10/27/2010)
“The fact is that Bennet is a rubberstamp for Pres. Obama, and the people of Colorado see that,” Swartout said.
“Of course Colorado’s independent voters are worried that Bennet is Obama’s favorite rubberstamp.”
Bennet’s supporters were quick to point out this fact. One caller even said, “I am so proud of you to take it upon yourself to vote for that health care bill, and all the other bills you supported the President in."(08:23)
“Our economy is in shambles because Bennet thinks his job is to represent the White House, not Colorado,” Swartout. “Coloradans are ready for a Senator who will represent them, like Ken Buck.”
Though Bennet didn’t invite press, he did invited the wives of both Buck’s general consultant and campaign manager.
“Neither of our wives are Bennet supporters,” added Swartout. “What list did Bennet use to get these phone numbers?”
