Bennet Fails to Produce Facts on Negative Ads
Media Has Called Out Bennet Repeatedly for Negative Attacks
"Unfairly Misleading" - "Sleazy" - "Out-of-Context and Unfair"
DENVER – Ken Buck, Republican candidate for US Senate, today blasted appointed Senator Michael Bennet’s failure to keep his promise to provide support on his website for negative attacks he has launched against Buck. Bennet made the promise to provide facts on his negative ads during the final debate between the Colorado Senate candidates.
“Here is what I would like to do-- I am going to post every single - the evidence for every single ad that I have run on our website and your viewers can take a look at that and make a decision about they think these are credible or not.”
Numerous media outlets across Colorado have challenged Bennet about his misleading negative ads, and in some cases, even called on him to stop. Ken Buck responded to Bennet’s failure to live up to his promise saying today:
“News outlets across Colorado have called out Sen. Bennet for putting up negative attack ads that are ‘sleazy,’ ‘unfairly misleading’ and ‘out of context,” Buck said today. “Colorado voters expect more out of their elected officials, and I call on Sen. Bennet to stop these attacks immediately. Unfortunately, however, I suspect as my opponent becomes more desperate, we will see more of these unfounded attacks, not less.
“Coloradans face tough economic times and want solutions to out of control government spending, high unemployment, and a weak economy. Since Sen. Bennet is ashamed of his record as a rubberstamp to the Obama agenda, he has made the decision to go on the attack and mislead the voters of Colorado. I have faith that Coloradans will see through this ploy.”
Early in the KCNC debate, Shaun Boyd challenged Senator Bennet on his negative ads.
Shaun Boyd: Senator Bennet there was certainly a pattern to your ads of framing your opponent as an extremist, and I found frankly, some of the claims to be a bit extreme and we are going to take a look at a couple that were in heavy rotation.
Commercial: Ken Buck wants to privatize social security and he even questioned whether social security should exists at all.
Commercial: Ken Buck wants to end federal student loans for middle class kids
Boyd: Ok, so you talked about having your comments taken out of context you used as backup for these basis for these claims some of Mr. Buck’s comments and I think they were taken out of context. He has talked about protecting social security for seniors I think he even suggested that we should be able to will our benefits should we die before collecting on them. On student loans he was not opposed to the loans, I think you know that, he was opposed to a law that put them in the hands of the federal government. How do you defend these claims?
