Creating Jobs

I'm the only candidate in this race who understands that much of what Washington has been doing over the last two years has hurt—not helped—the business environment.  In the middle of the worst recession of my lifetime, Congress spent months debating health care legislation that adds insurance and compliance costs to businesses' budgets.  16,500 new IRS agents, an onerous 1099 compliance regime, costly insurance mandates—this is what Washington calls an economic rescue plan?

When appointed Sen. Bennet and others in Congress did address the recession, they did so with the only answer they know: spend more of our money.  The federal government has accumulated nearly $3 trillion in debt since Sen. Bennet was appointed.  We're on our way to three $1.4 trillion annual deficits in a row.  And each dollar the federal government borrows is one less dollar available for businesses to invest and create jobs.

Instead of more government spending and stimulus, I support lowering personal and corporate taxes as a way to spur growth.  Instead of more I favor fewer regulations and mandates, so the government gets out of the way of job-creators.  And most importantly, I will work to give businesses certainty that the federal government won't impose new taxes and fees that kill jobs.  This is the pro-growth agenda Washington needs right now.
